About

How does literature depict physical and cognitive illness and disability? How do the narratives we tell and the types of language we use to describe illness affect our experiences of it? In this course, we will study works of literature that explore current issues in medicine, disability studies, and bioethics. We will tackle topics ranging from organ donation to autism. Authors and theorists may include Mark Haddon, Kazuo Ishiguro, Oliver Sacks, and Susan Sontag.
